A capsule wardrobe is a collection of garments that can be styled and worn together to create a variety of looks with minimal pieces. By creating a capsule wardrobe, you simplify your closet and save money. If either of these sound good to you then you may want to think about creating a capsule wardrobe for yourself. In this post I will look at some fall trends and discuss ways to incorporate pieces you may already have to create a fall wardrobe.
When creating a capsule wardrobe, it is best to stick to basics that you can layer and wear with multiple outfits. Whether that is a tank, tee, or a bodysuit, you cannot go wrong with pieces that can be worn by themselves or layered under a sweater or jacket. A button down is one top that can be used throughout the year. A solid color is easiest to pair with different pieces. Button downs are a sophisticated choice perfect for layering, making it a great addition to your fall wardrobe. Oversized fits like this one are very popular, but a tailored fit is a classic.
It is not fall without a flannel! Right? There are so many ways to incorporate flannels into your fall style. Check out all the different ways I styled a flannel here. There are a few flannels on the market that are so incredibly soft. I love the BDG by Urban flannels and Faherty shirts are such great quality and so soft. I also love a waffle knit top for fall. Fall can be a tricky season to dress for due to the uncertainty of the weather. In many regions, fall brings cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. You can easily transition some of your summer pieces into your fall wardrobe by adding a light sweater, wrap, or jacket to your summer dresses and skirts.
I suggest you have a blazer for all seasons, it makes every outfit look more polished. Blazers are an easy way to take a casual outfit up a notch. Blazers also add a bit of sophistication to any outfit. You cannot go wrong with your basic colored blazers. Black and tans can go with so many outfits and I also love a pattern for fall. Whether that is a plaid, checkered blazer, or a solid warm color, blazers can be a great addition to your wardrobe.
When it comes to sweaters, you can never have enough. Just kidding, that’s not what we are doing here. A cardigan, long cardigan, crewneck sweater and an oversized sweater are some of my favorite styles to keep in my closets. If you are looking for fall inspired colors, maroons, browns, or clays are great colors you can add into your assortment and wear year after year.
Jeans are a staple for every season. For you fall wardrobe, a great pair of straight or skinny leg jeans in a darker wash are perfect to pair with a cute pair of booties. A distressed pair of jeans is another style that is great for a more casual look and I love this pair. Faux leather leggings can be paired with just about any top and can be dressed up or down.
Coats to Keep You Warm & Stylish
Jackets are a must for your fall wardrobe, and you can take some of your fall jackets right into winter with you. I love a trench coat for fall and winter. When it gets cooler you can layer your trench with a sweater and you will be stylish and warm. Trench coats are not only sophisticated but look great on top of so many outfits.
Puffer jackets are another style of jacket that is great to have for a more relaxed look. Not only will it keep you warm, but it looks super cute. Two trends we saw on the runways for fall and winter were puffers and cozy coats with fur details and plush linings. Linked some cozy coats below.
Accessories to Complete Your Fall Wardrobe
Shoes, lets talk shoes! I love a heeled bootie, Chelsea boot, and an over the knee boot for cooler months. A cute pair of sneakers is great to pair with more casual looks, especially joggers or sweat suits. A great pair of flats or a mule is also a great addition to your fall and winter shoe wardrobe.
No outfit is complete without the perfect accessories to finish it off. A fun floppy hat is perfect for fall and there are so many cute ones on the market. I will not get too crazy going into handbags, as there are just so many, but I love to have some cute clutches, a cross body and then a larger purse to wear for different occasions.
