Cooking with your little ones is not only a great way to bond but can teach them many useful skills in the process. We recently tried Harlow’s Harvest Cooking Kits and we all loved it! Harlow’s Harvest is a cooking kit for children that is delivered to your home each month. Harlow’s Harvest was founded by a 7 year old little girl who wanted to share her love of cooking with other children (awesome!!). Each month they send you a box complete with new recipes that corresponds to that month’s theme, as well as a unique cooking tool and collectors pin.
We received the March box which was geared towards springtime and St. Patrick’s Day themes and included rainbow colored recipes. Each recipe provides you with a shopping list with images so it is easy for your little ones to partake in the shopping. My girls loved the responsibility of shopping for their own ingredients. The recipes include nutritional ingredients, some of which my kids typically wouldn’t gravitate towards. This introduced them to new foods in an exciting way. Each recipe comes in a booklet that includes nutrition facts and nutritional information about the ingredients (I had no idea just how great edamame is for you), cooking techniques, and some fun facts about the theme. I was very impressed with how much information you receive in these little booklets. When you make the recipe your child is given the opportunity to read and measure the ingredients. Then they get to see the cooking process, and best of all enjoy the finished product! All of the recipes we made were so delicious! I am a believer that food always tastes better when you make it yourself! In addition to the great recipes, the kits include science project cards, and additional activity cards. The Harlow’s Harvest kits are a great way to teach your children about nutrition, cooking techniques, and give you some fun activities to do together!
The first recipe we created was the Springtime Focaccia. I was not sure the girls would eat it with all of the fruits and veggies, but boy was I wrong! We ate the entire tray of bread in just a few days. It was so delicious, I will definitely be making this again in the future. My girls loved dipping the bread in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and did not mind the healthy toppings at all.
The next recipe we made was the Rainbow Veggie Bowl. This too was delicious and loved by the entire family. This will be a nice addition to our family dinner rotation. Again, I could not believe how excited the girls were to cook and eat all the veggies! I found out they love edamame.
Our third recipe, Lucky Shortbread Cookies was excellent and you all know I have high expectations when it comes to cookies. The girls loved making the cookies and had so much fun combining colors to make the bright and colorful cookie dough. The recipe card included a color wheel and information about color that helped them to see which primary colors mixed together to make the secondary colors. These cookies will definitely be a great addition to our cookie recipes and we will certainly be making them again as the brightly colored cookies were just so fun!
We have not finished with the science and other activity cards yet, but I am sure they will love them just as much! One little box gave us hours of entertainment, while also teaching your little ones while they cook and play! I highly recommend the Harlow’s Harvest Cooking Kits for your little babes!
You’re an awesome mom.
I learned from the best!
