For years people celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th, but it wasn’t until 1987 that Congress finally declared March as Women’s History Month. March is wonderful, not only because it is my birthday month, but because it is a month that celebrates the amazing women who have paved the way for us females today! It is a month when people should encourage young women and celebrate the monumental roles women have in shaping our history. As a mom of two little ladies, I am all about encouraging my girls to shoot for the stars and reminding them they can do anything they put their minds to. I have been doing some research on children’s books to help educate my little ones about the awesome ladies who changed our world and wanted to share with you what I found!
Little Golden Books are classics. I remember reading so many of these stories when I was a young girl and still read many of these books to my girls today. I first shared this first book in My Valentines Day Gift Guide about the incredible RBG! A woman who fought for equal rights for women and became the first female Supreme Court Justice! This My Little Golden Book About Ruth Bader Ginsburg book tells the story of her life and teaches your little ones to never give up even when people tell them they shouldn’t do something because they are female. Another amazing historic figure is Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo is considered to be one of Mexico’s greatest artists and an artist known for her female creativity!

The Fantastically Great Women series by Kate Pankhursh celebrates incredible women who have done amazing things throughout history, for science, the planet, and women in general. Buy the books as singles or they also come in a set which includes the incredible Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World, Fantastically Great Women Who Made History, and Fantastically Great Women Who Worked Wonders.

This next book A Is for Awesome!: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World is the perfect way to teach your little one their A,B,C’s while also teaching them about some amazing women who changed the world! Another book I love is Think Big, Little One which includes female scientists, inventors, artists, and scientists and teaches your little one to dream big. Both of these are board books perfect for your littlest children!

I also love Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race, based on the New York Times Best Selling Book Hidden Figures and the Academy Award nominated movie, which honors 4 incredible women who helped NASA launch the first astronauts into space! If you have not seen the movie I highly recommend watching it on your next movie night! Malala’s Magic Pencil, is a story about Nobel Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai’s life written in context for young readers. A wonderful book written by Chelsea Clinton She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World celebrates 13 women who spoke up when they were told to stay quiet and never took no as an answer! I hope you enjoy some of these book and always remember…girls rule!
